Plug and play · 29 cards

The retrieval deck for academic theology writing. Flip to the slot you are stuck on, take the sentence, keep drafting.

The pattern to memorize

I am claiming X because of Y, which matters because of Z.

The house style
C›E›E›D›A›T

Claim, Explanation, Evidence, Disagreement if it earns its place, Analysis, Transition. Use it for most paragraphs. Shapes tunes it to the kind of paragraph; Flavor changes the order when two in a row would sound alike.

Before you move on
  1. Did I make one clear claim?
  2. Did I explain that claim?
  3. Did I support it, with my own comment braided in?
  4. Does my analysis add something, or only restate the claim?
  5. Did I link it, at the end of this paragraph or the start of the next?
  6. Does this paragraph sound different from the last one?
The workflow
  1. Draft the sloppy copy. Ugly is fine.
  2. Tag each sentence in the margin.
  3. Triage each paragraph on the Triage tab.
  4. Sculpt it with the cards the triage names.
  5. Calibrate and cut once the section is done.
